Winter Plots

After discovering the plants in wasteland the previous week, it was time to get to winter work while awaiting the arrival of the greenhouse. The challenge was to work the ground before it freezes. We performed the first 16 plots of winter by drawing with chalk on a picket (small rope). We also planted some green manures (buckwheat, canola, clover, spinach) and some vegetables (parsnips, garlic, chervil, lettuce and cabbage).

From Wasteland to Garden

Aaa hosted a visit of the Nature Center on the Michelet Wasteland for a workshop of collective exploring the wasteland and discussion of the best ways to adapt it to the ecological vegetable culture. Most plants of the wasteland have been identified, including a number of edible and medicinal plants. A first question was asked for AgroCité future: how to adapt future crops through observation of indicator plants?

Collecting and manufacturing objects by recycling

Saturday 15 – EcoCommun # 1: After a short introduction of the R-Urban Strategy in Colombes by aaa, Public Works (UK) presented their work by showing a series of recycling projects:

  • “Banco de Repente” (“Suddenly a stool”), production of sitting furnitures conducted during opening week of Experimenta 09 (Lisbon), using materials derived from the installation of the exhibition.
  • “Parks products” in Kensington Gardens, which develops a range of tradable goods, produced by both designers and users of the park.
  • “International Village Shop” , an open and experimental platform for the development and exchange of local products through a network of rural and urban areas.

An exhibition on recycling techniques was organized and presented by aaa during the 3 days of EcoCommun and Workshop # 1.

Saturday 15, Sunday 16 and Monday 17 – Workshop # 1: The workshop began with a collective action of recovery of municipal waste that can be recycled through the creation of light structures for the first site of the R-Urban project in Colombes. Waste objects were collectively recovered from the wasteland and neglected but still accessible urban areas and also from small local businesses.

Participants in the three days of the workshop have collectively produced a display panel, tables and chairs for the garden from materials from the collection.
